Testimonials

"Two weeks after my delivery I am still amazed at the need for support during my labor experience. Bec was a vital part of that support. When labor was going "well" she helped reassure me and talk about the process. More importantly, when labor stalled and we began interventions she stayed focused and calm long after I'd given up caring. Without her I'm quite certain our outcome would have been worse. I don't know what we would have done without her. We brought a beautiful girl into the world, and we're all so happy Bec was a part of it."
-Amory, (mother of Elizabeth)

"Bec was a terrific support during labor. She guided me through breathing and positions to keep me comfortable and on top of my contractions. There was a general aura of peace and calm in the room and I remember one nurse coming in and saying, "Oh, it's really nice in here." Bec also whispered much-needed words of encouragement to me during the pushing stage. She was also great at partnering with my husband. I never really felt alone or fearful during my 42 hour labor. I look back at the whole experience with awe and appreciation."
-Paula, (mother of Lucas)

Om Births

Connecting to the spirit of Pregnancy and Childbirth
Welcome to the Birth Doula section of OM Births !!!
This page is designed to help you find out about the role of a doula, learn about the services a doula provides, and read testimonials from other couples about their birth  experiences.

What is a Doula?
A doula is a woman who has professional training in supporting mothers and their babies. A birth doula is someone who is trained in providing support during labor to mothers and their partners. A post-partum doula is a woman who supports the beginning days or weeks or a familly's life together.

The word “doula” comes from ancient Greek, meaning “Woman’s servant.” Throughout history and in much of the world today, a cadre of women support a woman through labor and birth, providing physical support, giving back rubs and providing continuous emotional support. Like their historical counterparts, birth doulas know how to help a woman in labor feel better. Along with supporting mom, I also provide support for new dads as well. Such support might be as simple as getting food or drinks, to providing a calm, steady person you can look to for reassurance and guidance.

A birth doula:
-Sees birth as a transformational, sacred, and special experience, which will be
remembered for the rest of the woman's life

-Has seen, and understands the physical  progression of labor, and the emotional
needs of a birthing woman

-Assists the woman and her partner in developing a birth plan and a picture of
their desired birth experience

-Honors and respects the woman's choices for her journey through labor, be they
natural or not.

-Stays by the mother's and father's side throughout the duration of labor
-Provides physical comfort measures and emotional support if needed, a calm
objective point of view, and assistance in gathering information to make
informed decisions about the course of labor.

-Facillitates support and communication between the birthing woman and her
partner, and provides physical and emotional support for the woman's partner
so he or she can remain a steady supportive presence for the woman.

-Nurtures and supports the birth of not only the baby, but the entire family

We all have familliarity with HypnoBirthing techniques as well as a variety of other tools for Natural Childbirth. Our goal is to support moms and dads in such a way that they are empowered, calm, and fully informed.
