Sweat & Rebuild Muscle with our Baby Sculpt Series! 

To complement our Kids Yoga practice, we are offering an intensive "Baby Sculpt" class in the same amazing environment. While babies are free to do what makes them happy, moms will be working not only on their core, but on full body strengthening and some much-needed stretching. We will be doing high intensity, low impact exercises with both our body weight and baby's! The goal is to target the muscles that may need strengthening after being pregnant and birth.

Kids Yoga (crawlers) has been such an amazing experience for us moms that have babies who are no longer candidates for Baby and Me Yoga – to put it simply, these older babies are ready to move and be more involved! 

Please note, for safety reasons, you must be a minimum of 3 months postpartum to participate in the series.

About Karina:
Karina grew up in Newport Beach, CA. In 1993 she received her Instructor Certification from the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America and immediately began teaching the most popular classes at the time, Step and Body Sculpting. Shortly thereafter “Spin Cycling” was born and in 1997 she began teaching non-traditional spin classes, riding out of the saddle, to the beat of the music, for the duration of the class. When she became pregnant in 2009 with her first child, she decided to take on fitness full time. She founded 10/60 Sweat, a high-intensity interval class consisting of treadmill and resistance/strength training. When her son was 6 weeks old, Karina began taking on personal clients again, but the focus was now on moms who were trying to get back to their pre-baby selves AND who did not have child care! The workouts became baby-and-me sessions with both Karina, and her clients bringing their babies along. Finding the Kids Yoga classes at Om Births has inspired her to dive back into her passion of teaching, while incorporating her children, and also her goal of becoming a yoga instructor.

It's FINALLY HERE! This third portion of our Pre/Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training is the first of it's kind in the Boston region!


In Module 3 we'll expand upon the themes in Modules 1 and 2, and delve even deeper into the methodology of teaching pre and postnatal yoga. This weekend offers numerous opportunities to refine your teaching techniques as well as your overall focus as a yoga teacher in the pre/postnatal field.

Who is this training for?

This module is appropriate for anyone who has taken the prenatal module of the Om Birth teacher training. Taken another prenatal training or have a question? Drop us a line.

The workshop will include sections on:

  • How to “take your seat” as the teacher and create a nurturing and welcoming environment while still maintaining your position as guardian of safety.
     
  • Specifics of the Om Births style and philosophy around pre and postnatal yoga practice and mindfulness throughout the childbearing year and beyond.
     
  • Hand-on adjustments; learn specifics about physically adjusting the pregnant body. Some common do’s and don’ts as well as deepening your understanding of alignment and anatomy. Along with this will be an exploration of using props to enhance rather than just “prop up” certain postures.
     
  • Working with specialized populations - How to sequence for students with specific prenatal challenges such as Pubis Symphysis Dysfunction, or postnatal concerns such as Diastasis recti. We’ll explore more fully the causes of these and other challenges and learn how to prevent and protect against them
     
  • Sequencing for advanced students. Building off our discussion of special cases we’ll discuss and explore teaching more advanced postures such as deeper backbends and inversions to experienced students. Be prepared to have your own understanding of alignment in these postures challenged.
     
  • Yoga Nidra for Pregnancy, Birth and beyond. We’ll cover the impact of relaxation on the nervous system when pregnant and the importance of relaxation during the birth process. We’ll then walk through restorative postures appropriate for pregnancy. How to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system and practice the key restorative yoga asanas for Pregnancy, Births and Motherhood.

This weekend is designed to fully certify prenatal teachers as Om Births Prenatal Yoga teachers, in the Om Births lineage. Completion of all 3 Modules and Practicum will allow students to apply to Yoga Alliance for the RPYT designation and will also qualify you to attend the Om Births teachers retreat to be held in the Spring of 2018 (we hope!)

Learn How to Teach a Safe, Supportive & Creative Yoga Practice for Expectant Mothers

This training is for yoga teachers interested in delving into the world of pregnancy and yoga. The 20-hour immersion week-end will prepare students to work with the special needs of prenatal students, and certify them to design and teach a safe, specifically prenatal class. This is also the first in the 3 level program for the Om Births Prenatal Teacher Training.

The workshop will include sections on: 

  • The anatomy and physiology of Pregnancy
  • Yoga’s view the pregnant body and how this model differs from the western medical model
  • Historical practices in Birth and how those practices have affected the birth process.
  • Myths surrounding prenatal yoga: which postures are truly contraindicated and why?
  • Appropriate postures for a prenatal yoga practice and class
  • Modifications for different stages in pregnancy
  • Yoga solutions to common pregnancy aches and pains.
  • Meditation for both pregnancy and birth
  • Pranayama for a prenatal practice
  • Yoga practices for childbirth preparation
  • Prenatal class components and sequencing, including discussion of how to conduct “circle time” and foster community through open communication in class
  • Student teaching opportunities
  • Immediate post-natal yoga considerations and steps for re-introducing mom back to practice

All students will receive a training manual containing the above components as well as suggested prenatal sequences for class development.

This workshop provides an opportunity for couples to enhance their awareness and confidence in pregnancy and birth. Couples use Partner Yoga in a light fun atmosphere. Along with Partner Yoga, the workshop will also focus on different ways to connect and use Yoga off the mat and during Birth.

Topics covered include:

-Yoga sequences and postures which could be useful during Labor and Delivery

-Alternative Birthing positions and how to get in and out of them

-Intuitive massage techniques to relieve pain and increase endorphins

-Counter pressure techniques useful for relieving Labor pain

-Vocal toning to facilitate relaxation and opening.

Partner Yoga is a fun practice of yoga postures done in physical contact with another person. Students experience a deeper sense of release and stretching through sharing weight and touch with their partners. The practice helps develop a strong feeling of connection both on the mat, and afterwards.

This workshop is designed to help new moms recover strength and tone in their core body muscles following pregnancy and birth.

The workshop will include:

-Experiential anatomy to feel the different layers of muscles in the abdominal wall

-Pelvic Floor exercises and how to works them seamlessly into your day

-The proper way to do "crunches"

-Progressive exercises which can be done at whatever level your body is ready for

-How and when to return to jogging and running activities safely

This is not just a sit-up fest. We will incorporate front, back and base core exercises with an eye to developing an overall strong center able to respond to everything from sneezing, to running to Vinyasa yoga

Beneficial for any moms at least 4 weeks post-partum (note: Mom should be cleared for light exercise by a care provider)

Lara was a classroom teacher when she noticed the need for a different kind of skill set than was offered in a typical classroom. That is what urged her to begin a children's yoga journey. More than a decade of studies in yoga plus 15 year in early education, and continuous studies with leaders in the field such as Jennifer Harper Cohen, Mayuri Gonzales, Tara Rachel Jones and Abbie Davies had helped shape her methodology. As a young woman, Lara was mentored by the education director of Pine Village Preschool, Jacie Feinberg, and also by Roman Szpond, owner of Inner Strength Studios. She now resides in New York City

Om Births Welcomes back Lorenza Holt and Spinning Babies for a special workshop on optimal positioning for your baby before and during Labor and Birth!

You may have heard about the amazing effects of spinning babies techniques on Positioning for Breech babies, now learn how to incorporate these techniques to possibly avoid a breech baby altogether. Better understand the structure and malleability of your pelvis, and how to use your own movements and positions to work best with your body through labor to speed up and smooth out your labor!

This 2 hour class will talk about:
1. The pelvis, the uterus, and the collection of soft tissues that support the pregnant uterus.

2. How the position of the baby in the pelvis can impact your comfort in pregnancy and ease during the birth process.

3. Daily activities that promote more comfort in pregnancy.

4. Gentle stretches, positions or exercises that a mother can practice in pregnancy and during labor to encourage a more flexible pelvis.

5. Have fun learning Belly Mapping! The bumps, kicks and wiggles you are feeling can tell you the position of your baby in that moment.

Om Births is excited to offer a 5 day immersion course blending our first and second modules for Prenatal and Postnatal Teacher Training together!  
Get both certifications at once!

This training is for yoga teachers with a 200 hr certification who are interested in delving more fully into the world of prenatal and postnatal yoga.  The 5 day immersion will prepare students to work with the special needs of pre and post natal students, and certify them to design and teach classes to specifically benefit prenatal and postpartum bodies. Students participating in this weekend training should expect to gain an overall comprehensive understanding of yoga during pre and postnatal periods. 

The training will begin with our first module on prenatal practice covering topics such as:

  • The anatomy and physiology of pregnancy
  • Appropriate postures for a prenatal yoga practice and class
  • Modifications for different stages in pregnancy
  • Yoga solutions to common pregnancy aches and pains.
  • Meditation for both pregnancy and birth
  • Pranayama for a prenatal practice
  • Prenatal class components and sequencing, including discussion of how to conduct “circle time” and foster community through open communication in class

We will then continue on the module 2, delving into postpartum topics such as:

  • Anatomy and physiology of postpartum period
  • Physical considerations for practice following birth
  • Asana modifications where necessary
  • Working with birth injuries, stitches, and C-sections
  • When to resume exercise, and how to ease into active activities (ie: running)
  • Levels of core integration exercises and when to increase difficulty
  • Games and soothing techniques to incorporate Baby into the Yoga practice.
  • Ways to develop community support for mothers and families

Acupressure for Birth Professionals

Om Births is excited to host this wonderful workshop with Licensed Acupuncturist Ali Vander Baan of Yintuition Wellness

This workshop is geared toward birth professionals, including midwives, doulas, OB/GYNs, nurses and all other healthcare professionals who attend births.

The workshop will guide birth professionals in proper use of acupressure techniques during pregnancy and birth.

Participants will learn:

  • Research and evidence for the use of acupressure
  • Acupressure for common pregnancy symptoms.
  • Acupressure for breech and occiput-posterior position
  • Labor induction acupressure
  • Acupressure points for labor pain management and labor facilitation
  • Acupressure for common postpartum conditions

These topics will be discussed followed by ample time to learn proper point location and effective stimulation of points.  

Bonus: Learn and practice other techniques to help address breech presentation, nausea, insufficient lactation, and other common pregnancy, labor, and postpartum symptoms.

Ali Vander Baan L.Ac.  is based in Boston’s South End, is an acupuncturist and herbalist who offers specialized care from preconception, through pregnancy and into the postpartum. Ali holds a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and completed an extensive internship in Chinese Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. She also has a Master’s Degree in Pain Management from Tufts University School of Medicine.

InHara Workshop- A special series for women on pelvic floor and sexual health

The Inhara Practice, or as some call it

"The Vagina Workshop"

The word Hara stands for the soft abdomen in Japanese.
The InHara Practice is a system of movement for women to reconnect with the most primal portion of her body, within her pelvis.

During this 4 week workshop, women will move through a specific sequence of “exercises” to connect with,tone, invigorate, and juice up the abdominal walls and pelvic floor.Immediate results have been: a stronger center and lift to a sagging pelvic floor.Long term results have included: re-lifting of prolapsed pelvic organs,vibrant sexual health, greater knowledge and confidence in your sexuality,and a renewal of the upward fountain of your creative drive.This program is for all women, at any age, and at any stage of her life.

About Marissa
Marissa has been studying the art of movement through dance, martial arts, fitness, and yoga, since she was a child. After nearly 20 years of experience teaching yoga in and around Boston, MA, she has synthesized her work into the InHara System.
Beginning in 2004, Marissa began attending childbirth as a certified professional doula to help in any and all ways through support, advocacy, and education.
In 2013 she created The InHara Practice. Workshops followed soon after providing a system of movement for women to reconnect with their most primal portion of the body, the pelvis. Around town, Marissa is known as "the Vagina Lady", a title that fits the InHara System well.
Marissa returned to school in 2014 to study massage therapy at The Bancroft School of Massage Therapy and directly after following a 10 year dream, to study Arvigo Technique of Mayan Abdominal Therapy under the watchful eye of the program creator,  Rosita Arvigo.
Marissa is a wife, mother of 2, a step-mom, and is found happiest hiking, cooking, and chasing her dog in the woods

Prerequisite: Om Births Prenatal Training Level 1

This weekend is the continuation of the Om Births initial Prenatal training and flows from here into the Om Births Advanced Prenatal Training and the Capstone retreat. This Training will culminate in sufficient hours for the Yoga Alliance RPYT designation (our program is in the process of being certified). If you're not interested in getting the Yoga alliance registration, no worries! The four trainings combined constitute an Om Births Certification in expert pre and postnatal yoga technique.

Spinning Babies for Parents

Om Births is Super Excited to Welcome Spinning Babies and Lorenza Holt for a special workshop on optimal positioning for your baby before and during labor and Birth!

You may have heard about the amazing effects of spinning babies techniques on Positioning for Breech babies, now learn how to incorporate these techniques to possibly avoid a breech baby altogether. Better understand the structure and malleability of your pelvis, and how to use your own movements and positions to work best with your body through labor to speed up and smooth out your labor!

This 2 hour class will talk about:
1. The pelvis, the uterus, and the collection of soft tissues that support the pregnant uterus.

2. How the position of the baby in the pelvis can impact your comfort in pregnancy and ease during the birth process.

3. Daily activities that promote more comfort in pregnancy.

4. Gentle stretches, positions or exercises that a mother can practice in pregnancy and during labor to encourage a more flexible pelvis.

5. Have fun learning Belly Mapping! The bumps, kicks and wiggles you are feeling can tell you the position of your baby in that moment.

This TLC 2-hour parent workshop explores the foundations of infant sleep and provides an overview of gentle techniques to support the development of new sleep patterns.  Parents will obtain scientific information about sleep and approaches to support developmentally appropriate sleep patterns in their child.  This workshop does not promote a “right way” to help a baby sleep; rather, we will provide information and tools that can empower parents to make choices that are right for their own families. During the second hour of the workshop, there will be time for individual questions and answers.

In this workshop, you will learn:

  1. Why babies sleep the way they do

  2. How biology and psychology affect your child’s sleep

  3. Developmentally appropriate expectations for your baby’s sleep

  4. Gentle techniques to support the sleep learning process

  5. Tools and strategies that you can apply to your own child and family

This workshop is open to parents of children from infancy - two-years old.

Guest Teacher: Sarah Kerrigan, MA Pediatric Sleep Consultant

I am a third-generation early childhood educator, following in the footsteps of my mother and grandmother. A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Earlham college in 2000 helped to continue me along this path, and a Master’s degree in Child Development from Tufts University in 2005 strengthened my commitment to supporting children and parents in the earliest years of development. I am knowledgeable about various parenting/family styles (including AP and RIE/mindful parenting) and apply both my deep understanding of child development and respect for individual family viewpoints into my role as an instructor.

For the past 15+ years, I have worked in many positions in the field of early childhood education and parenting support. First as a preschool teacher at the Lesley Ellis School, then as a Child Development Specialist for Cambridge-Somerville Early Intervention, back to teaching two-year-olds at the Cambridge-Ellis School, becoming a mother myself, as an instructor and then pediatric sleep consultant for Isis Parenting, and most recently as an independent pediatric sleep consultant.

My six-year-old son and three-year-old daughter have also taught me so much about the intense joys and challenges of parenting, and I’ve developed a passion for helping other parents navigate these early years. I am excited to presently be an expert in parenting at The Loved Child offering sleep support to children and their parents through Parent Workshops, Drop-In Support Groups, and Individual Parent Consultations.

The good news is, awareness and planning can reduce the incidence of emotional complications in pregnancy and postpartum. This workshop talks about what emotional complications look like (and don’t look like -- you may be surprised!), how to implement strategies to protect your emotional health, and what resources are out there if you need support.

More about Vanessa:Vanessa completed her 200 hour teacher training in April 2014 from Inner Strength Studios in Watertown, MA under the guidance of Roman Szpond and Lauren Star. Though challenging to practice yoga while pregnant, Vanessa was grateful that she was able to focus on her spiritual and emotional growth during this time. It taught her that yoga is truly much more than asanas. After the birth of her daughter, Vanessa received a Kids Yoga Certification from Flow and Grow Kids Yoga founder Lara Hocheiser.
Vanessa discovered yoga at a young age through books, but did not begin practicing consistently until 2010. Yoga helped Vanessa through many difficult times, as well as nurtured and enriched her life by teaching her self-love and self-acceptance. Vanessa’s yoga philosophy teaches that mindfulness, an open heart and being kind are essential to living a life of happiness. Vanessa's daughter, Luna has inspired her to share her knowledge, passion, and love of yoga and mindfulness with other children. We'll introduce appropriate yoga postures to help with neck and shoulder tension as well as abdominal strength and mental clarity. About Kerry:
Kerry grew up in Canada and has spent most of her adult life adventuring around the world while experiencing different yoga styles and teachers. She just recently moved to the Boston area from Europe with her husband and 2 young sons. 2007 marked the beginning of her teaching journey and she completed her 200 hour Vinyasa Flow teacher training through Frog Lotus International under the guidance of Vidya Heisel and Jennifer Yarro. More recently Kerry completed the Om Births Prenatal Yoga teacher training with Bec Conant. This training reignited her passion for teaching yoga and her desire to share the physical and emotional benefits of practicing yoga during pregnancy.
With a background in experiential education and psychology, Kerry provides a relaxed class environment where people can feel comfortable with themselves and where they are in their practices. Looking to Conceive? Om Births is here to help with Fertile Body Yoga!

Studies have shown a relationship between stress and conception.

Fertile Body Yoga classes use the style of Slow Flow Yoga. We link the breath with slow movement to create mindfulness which helps to relax the mind and bring awareness to the body.

Next 4 week series begins Monday Dec 5th at 7pm.

Through Fertile Body classes you will learn to:

  • Reduce stress by deepening and controlling the breath (pranayama) and physical postures (asana)
  • Stretch and open the pelvis, lower back, hips, groins, chest, and shoulders (asana)
  • Open and support the pelvic area by increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs and activating the pelvic floor muscle
  • Learn healthy emotional and cognitive skills to better navigate the ups and downs of everyday life and the journey to parenthood. We will utilize the practices of concentration and meditation (dharana and dyrana), visualization, yogic philosophy (yamas and niyamas), and mindful self-awareness (pratyahara and Svadhyaya) 
  • Create a sense of community so that women feel supported in their journey, as well as to decrease the feeling of isolation

The Fertile Body Yoga classes are open to all women who would like to have a baby.

This includes women who:

  • would like to get pregnant and are finding that it is taking longer than expected
  • are aware that they have fertility challenges (PCOS, endometriosis, unexplained fertility etc.)
  • have irregular menstrual cycles
  • have experienced a miscarriage or multiple miscarriages
  • are preparing for any ART (artificial reproductive therapy - i.e. hormone therapy, IUI, IVF)
  • are at the beginning of their family making journey and would like to enhance the possibility of conception
  • are feeling stressed out, overwhelmed, obsessed, confused, frustrated, sad, impatient, helpless, or powerless throughout their efforts to conceive

What Fertile Body Yoga is not:

This is not a hot yoga or power yoga class. Both of these styles of yoga are considered inhibiting to fertility. We offer a slow flow style of yoga in a temperature controlled room that will allow your body and mind to relax and restore. Our focus is not on giving your body a work out, we’re focused on creating a receptive and fertile body.

Fertile Body Yoga is not group therapy. Although we do a quick check in at the beginning of class, we encourage the more in depth sharing to happen after class, allowing for a neutral class atmosphere. If there is something you would like to share with the teacher in private you may do so before class. If you feel that you would benefit from some therapy or coaching we would be happen to refer you.

Yoga for fertility is not a magic pill or drug that will result in a baby. It is a practice that will give you the ability to better navigate daily stressors and the ups and downs of becoming pregnant. By relieving stress (through mind/body practices), your body has the opportunity to be fully fertile, heightening your chances of conception. We ask that you come to class with an open mind, no expectations, and no attachments.

The main goal of the Fertile Body Yoga classes is to help women take more control of their reproductive health and become as fertile as possible. We do this by focusing on the whole body (not just the reproductive organs) and relaxing the mind to reduce stress.

About Kerry Hinds

My journey to parenthood had many swerves and curves. I waited, as many women do these days, to begin trying to get pregnant in my mid 30‘s. Over 3 years we experienced 4 insemination cycles, one pregnancy, one miscarriage, and 3 failed IVF cycles. We finally decided to stop what we were doing and regroup. A couple months later I conceived naturally and went into labor with my son on my 38th birthday. 9 months later I conceived naturally again and gave birth to another son. For this, I feel infinitely blessed.

In the middle of my fertility journey, I decided that I needed to do something truly monumental for myself on my 35th birthday - I signed up for a Yoga Teacher Training with Frog Lotus International. I am so thankful that I did! With my return to the USA in 2016, I attended the Om Births Prenatal Yoga teacher training which rekindled my passion for teaching yoga. With my experiences and background, the idea of a fertility yoga program was a natural progression for myself, as well as a natural fit for Om Births director and founder Bec Conant. I recently completed a Yoga for Fertility Teacher Training with Sue Dumais.

My yoga practice helped me emotionally, mentally, and physically throughout my years of trying to conceive. I look forward to sharing this in more detail during the Fertile Body Yoga classes and hope to support other women on their journeys to becoming parents.

The Loving Child Parenting Center features an expert curriculum to help educate new and experienced parents on infant development. 

This workshop is a weekly class series Thursdays, March 2nd- April 6th 1pm-2:15pm and is appropriate for parents of newborns through 5 months of age. 

TLC New Parenting and Infancy Classes include:

  1. TLC New Parent & Infancy Classes are unique and unlike all other parent/infant classes. The enjoyable, educational, and evidence-based weekly curriculum EQUALLY supports the typical developmental process for both the new mother/father AND the infant(s).

This nontraditional adult/child class introduces asanas (yoga poses) and pranayama (breath work) through play, storytelling, and imagination. In this non-traditional yoga class your little one will be taken on an imaginative, creative and fun adventure all while building their confidence, self-esteem, and foundation for a healthy and mindful lifestyle.

We encourage families to register for a series to gain the full benefits of these classes. Children thrive on the repetition of movements, sounds and experiences. Repetition is a foundation of learning. It helps to improve speed, increases confidence, and strengthens the connections in the brain that help children to learn and feel safe.

Kara Magaldi
With over 20 years in childcare, Kara explored an opportunity with children’s yoga and received her certification. Her strong desire to help her students, who also struggled with anxiety and others with special needs, enabled her to bring a new perspective into her classroom. Later, her yoga journey led her to complete her 200-hour Vinyasa teacher training certification with David Vendetti, Todd Skoglund and Kate Graham at South Boston Yoga. She realized her passion for yoga was fueled by her need to help others, experiencing the joy, healing, balance and positive reinforcement she received while practicing. She especially enjoys working with kids, while extending her deep respect and love for yoga with the community in various levels and styles. The deep connection to share the mind/body relationship is an experience she hopes everyone will discover in their own practice.

Om Births is Walking for Hope!

Donation Prenatal Yoga class to benefit RESOLVE New England

At Om Births we often only see people after they have conceived or given birth to their little ones, but many of us know someone who has struggled to get to this stage of being a parent, or perhaps you personally have experienced fertility treatments.

At Om Births we support the entire Parenting experience, from conception through those first few years of life and adjustment. As such we are walking as a team in RESOLVE New England's Walk of Hope on September 18th from the Ednicott Estate in Dedham. 
As part of our fundraising and karma yoga efforts, we are offering a Charity Prenatal Yoga class at Simply Yoga in Belmont on Saturday September 10th at 11am with our very own May Lee Tjoa. All proceeds from this class will go to support the Om Births team walking in the Walk of Hope the following Sunday.

We hope you will join us for class at our new Belmont space and help support us and RESOLVE New England in helping support Moms and Dads looking to expand their families.

RESOLVE’s Walk of Hope is a signature fundraising event: one morning to walk one mile to unite one community. The Walk of Hope recognizes the many ways in which families are built, supports local support services and programs for the 7.3 million women and men living with infertility, and raises public understanding of how the disease of infertility impacts families nationwide.

The Walk of Hope is being held in several locations across the country. Funds raised from the Walk supports RESOLVE programming including support groups, the most up to date online information, public awareness initiatives, and advocacy efforts to ensure family building options are available to all!

The name "Walk of Hope" embodies the emotion that most people living with infertility feel. The Walk of Hope is an event that represents the infertility journey—a series of small steps, each one filled with hope and a reminder that no one should walk on this journey alone.

This expanded version of the Om Births TM Prenatal yoga class will offer time to break down conventional yoga sequences and modify them for pregnancy, as well as learn better alignment for your changing physiology, and spend time learning Yoga Breathing techniques to calm your nervous system and help you relax and prepare to welcome your baby into your arms.
Appropriate at any stage of pregnancy. 

Students will get to:

  • Enjoy an appropriately vigorous yoga practice feeling the strength the body has naturally
  • Deeply relax their body and mind
  • Connect to their own innate curiosity and explore the practice of Yoga while pregnant
  • Connect more deeply to their son or daughter within
  • Learn safe ways to practice throughout pregnancy
  • Practice Breathing and relaxation techniques to ease discomfort and manage labor
  • Meet fellow expecting Moms and share a fun class together.

Om Births TM Teachers are all highly skilled yoga teachers who have completed a 200hr initial yoga teacher training, and have then been trained and mentored by Bec Conant. Bec has been teaching prenatal yoga for over 15 years, as well as working as a Birth Doula and HypnoBirthing educator. Om Births TM' style of prenatal yoga begins with a level 1 Vinyasa, but then adapts the poses to a moderate level for pregnancy. Om Births TM also brings playful mindfulness into the practice building a fun atmosphere which encourages exploration in a safe, nurturing environment. Not to tight, not too loose, this practice lets you work at your level to find your own personal edge and insight.

Om BirthsTM Popular workshop comes to Simply Yoga!
his workshop is designed to help new moms recover strength and tone in their core body muscles following pregnancy and birth.

The workshop will include:

-Experiential anatomy to feel the different layers of muscles in the abdominal wall

-Pelvic Floor exercises and how to works them seamlessly into your day

-The proper way to do "crunches"

-Progressive exercises which can be done at whatever level your body is ready for

-How and when to return to jogging and running activities safely

This is not just a sit-up fest. We will incorporate front, back and base core exercises with an eye to developing an overall strong center able to respond to everything from sneezing, to running to Vinyasa yoga

Beneficial for any moms at least 4 weeks post-partum (note: Mom should be cleared for light exercise by a care provider)

Baby and Me Yoga in Sudbury!

Looking for a fun activitiy you can do with your baby?
Want to meet other Moms in your area?
How about regain abdominal strength or undo the tension from "New Mommy Posture"?

Come join Om Births TM teachers for a one hour workshop on how to practice yoga for your self while still involving baby. We will focus on:
Relieving neck and shoulder tension
Strengthening core support
Rediscovering your own practice, and how to make simple activities like caring for your little one opportunities to practice
Ways to interact and connect with Baby and yourself

This workshop is a single session of the popular Om Births TM Baby and Me program in Watertown. Moms are welcome as soon as you are cleared for exercise post-birth (usually 4-6 weeks postpartum). Partner's are welcome also! Babies may come until they are actively crawling at which time they become a concern to both Mom and the other yoginis in the room. During the workshop babies are also allowed to do whatever they would do at home. Expect to spend a portion of the time feeding or diapering your baby, and for babies to be making noise. The teacher will work with whatever you need.

Spinning Babies for Parents -June

Position Baby better for an easier Birth!

Spinning Babies and Lorenza Holt returns to Om Births June 24th for a special workshop on optimal positioning for your baby before and during Labor and Birth!

You may have heard about the amazing effects of spinning babies techniques on Positioning for Breech babies, now learn how to incorporate these techniques to possibly avoid a breech baby altogether. Better understand the structure and malleability of your pelvis, and how to use your own movements and positions to work best with your body through labor to speed up and smooth out your labor!

This 2 hour class will talk about:
1. The pelvis, the uterus, and the collection of soft tissues that support the pregnant uterus.

2. How the position of the baby in the pelvis can impact your comfort in pregnancy and ease during the birth process.

3. Daily activities that promote more comfort in pregnancy.

4. Gentle stretches, positions or exercises that a mother can practice in pregnancy and during labor to encourage a more flexible pelvis.

5. Have fun learning Belly Mapping! The bumps, kicks and wiggles you are feeling can tell you the position of your baby in that moment.

Lorenza Holt, Spinning Babies Trainer, and approved birth doula trainer with DONA International comes to this workshop with more than 20 years of experience as a childbirth educator, birth doula, and trainer in a variety of women’s health topics.  She is a native of Guadalajara, Mexico who lives in Boston, Massachusetts.

This workshop will introduce parents and teachers of young children to a repertoire of tools and strategies to address a toddler's emotional and physical needs. Using Yoga breathing and postures, along with mindfulness practices this workshop will teach techniques to help parents and teachers assist young children in developing:

  • Relationship Skills
  • Responsible Decision Making

Lead by Early Education expert Lara Hochieser this is an amazing workshop for learning yoga to support your children's emotional and social development as well as their physical flexibility. Appropriate for anyone who has or works with kids.

 Lara Hocheiser, E-RYT, RCYT, early education expert and founder/director of Flow and Grow Kids Yoga teacher training.
Lara was a classroom teacher when she noticed the need for a different kind of skill set than was offered in a typical classroom. That is what urged her to begin a children's yoga journey. More than a decade of studies in yoga plus 15 year in early education, and continuous studies with leaders in the field such as Jennifer Harper Cohen, Mayuri Gonzales, Tara Rachel Jones and Abbie Davies had helped shape her methodology. As a young woman, Lara was mentored by the education director of Pine Village Preschool, Jacie Feinberg, and also by Roman Szpond, owner of Inner Strength Studios. She now resides in New York City.

Spinning Babies Training for Yoga Teachers and Birth Professionals

Om Births is thrilled to host BACE-NMC, Spinning Babies and Lorenza Holt for a special training in the philosophy and techniques of Gail Tully and Spinning Babies! This workshop is for midwives, childbirth educators, doulas, nurses, nurse practitioners, obstetricians, prenatal yoga instructors, chiropractors, acupuncturists, massage therapists, myo-fascial release practitioners, perinatal case managers, community health workers and others who work with birthing women.        

The Three Principles of Spinning Babies are: 

Balance, Gravity and Movement. Learn how to encourage and support pregnant women having more comfortable pregnancies and laboring mothers having easier labors by using the Spinning Babies principles and techniques. 

Spinning Babies promotes better fetal positioning during pregnancy and labor by using techniques that help soften and balance the pelvic ligaments and muscles that support the pregnant uterus and pelvic floor.  We relate pelvic alignment and mobility to an easier and shorter birth. 

Spinning Babies gives your work greater success by teaching you specific techniques. You will learn to know when to do what- and why - to help baby engage, descend and rotate through the pelvis and pelvic floor.  You will practice techniques for when labor stalls due to lack of engagement, a cervical lip or transverse arrest. 

Spinning Babies will teach you about:

  • The anatomy and physiology of the pregnant uterus and the soft tissues that support the pelvic structure
  • Belly Mapping, - a fun and effective way that encourages mothers to connect with how their babies are positioned inside them during the last weeks of pregnancy
  • The effects of an occiput posterior labor
  • Assessing what a stalled labor pattern is telling us 
  • What techniques we can apply to ease labor progress through the three levels of the pelvis
  • How a doula, within her  scope of practice, can use the Spinning Babies principles

Spinning Babies will change the way you think about birth interventions.
